Washed Over

The day had arrived that we had been waiting for
Your eyelet satin gown
Worn first by me, many years ago
Hanging delectably over your plush soft skin
Just on top of that simple cotton slip
The overlaying skirt with the wide ivory colored ribbon
Once your Nonna’s wedding veil
Reconstructed and now the center stage, again
Tied loosely around your waist
Distinguished vintage lace encrusted around the edges
Flowing up and all throughout
Three layers of organza tulle pulling everything together
Your bonnet rests softly on top of your fine baby hair
Showing only a glimpse of your pale blonde locks, slipping out in front
A celebratory bracelet on your wrist
Along with a sparkling cross around your chubby neck
Both gifted to you from family
Marking this beautiful blessed day
You look just like a dream
A baby doll display
Enjoying all the moments being created on your special baptismal day
So many gathered round, eighty-one to be precise
The sacramental candle is lit
Representing the light of the world, our Savior
The light that’s within
Annotated in oil with all it’s fine scents
Washed over with the waters in Christ
Once, Twice, Three times the water is poured
Father, Son and Holy Spirit
The trinity of rinsing
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Everyone stands and claps loudly with approval
In that moment
As your eyes and ears reach the excitement of the church
A giggling smile stretches across your face
You are beaming with pride, joy and I may also guess…
The Holy Spirit
Roaring with delight
Both you and the entire congregation
You are blessed my dear child
A child of God
And it’s as if you know
I feel it in my skin and sense it in my heart
You have a beautiful purpose
And apparently a love for the lime light
Welcome little one
Welcome to the beginning of your journey
And with many prayers, your faith

I thank you for including Frank and I by delivering the delishous baptismal cupcakes as a way of including us in your lovely ceremonial day. We hated to miss it, but your blog and pictures made us a part of it. Again, thank you.
